Orbit Reconstruction

Reconstruction of the Eye Socket

Recover From Your Injury. Restore Your Eyes.

Our eyes are a crucial part of our lives.  They not only allow us to see the world around us, but they give our face a distinct look that is all our own.

Sometimes things happen to us that can cause the entire area around the eye to start experiencing problems.  Things like birth defects, serious accidents and certain diseases can cause issues in the entire eye area.

If you’ve suffered from an event that has caused damage to your eye sockets, then you may be experiencing problems with your eyes, vision, facial muscles or sensation in your face. You may also be unhappy with how your face looks as a result of an accident.

Whether you’ve had a major or minor injury, there is something that can be done.  Reconstructive eye socket surgery, also known as orbit reconstruction, is a medical procedure that aims to restore the look of your face, and the natural functions of your eye.

This type of reconstruction is difficult, and can’t be carried out by just any dermatologist or plastic surgeon.  It must be performed by a facial plastic surgery expert with decades of experience.

With his experience removing cancer on the face, and reconstructing eye sockets back to their natural function and beauty, Dr. Cohen can help.

How Is The Eye Socket Reconstructed?

Dr. Cohen uses a variety of techniques to reconstruct your eye socket. No two reconstructive surgeries are the same, because every patient is different.

In general, Dr. Cohen uses implants or fat grafts, eyelid tightening, and upper eyelid ptosis surgery, among other procedures.

The procedures and techniques Dr. Cohen uses on your face will depend on your exact situation. This includes the severity of the issue and the exact nature of the problem.

A consultation with Dr. Cohen is the only way to know for sure which techniques he can recommend for your reconstruction. His decision will be based on an expert assessment of your eye and the specific situation.

t

Will I Be Under Anesthesia?

As with cosmetic eyelid surgery, reconstructive procedures can be performed under sedation or general anesthesia and are most often outpatient procedures.  In some cases, the choice is left to you.

t

What Is The Recovery Period After Surgery?

In many cases, recovery from eye socket reconstructive surgery is normally a pretty speedy recovery, lasting only a couple weeks.

The exact recovery period will depend on your specific situation, the complexity of your own unique surgery, and the intensity of the reconstruction.  On average, you can expect a 2-6 week recovery period, with visible bruising within the first 1-2 weeks.

Some patients can go home the same day so long as you have someone to help you through the first day or two; but others may need to be hospitalized for 3-7 days if the reconstruction required more in-depth surgery techniques.

In some cases, Dr. Cohen may give you a pressure patch to wear for about a week to control the swelling. This is usually removed at your postoperative appointment.

Patient and RealSelf User

I went to the consultation with the idea of surgically removing the “bags” under my eyes and Dr. Cohen recommended this less invasive and more affordable solution. (unlike other doctors I spoke with~they were ready and willing to do surgery with no mention of another options…until I asked!). Dr. Cohen and his staff were great and I would recommend him to anyone! Trisha9329

I felt that I needed a bit of work to stave off the aging process. My visit with Dr Cohen was wonderful, he was professional and caring at the same time as he explained he did not want to over-enhance but accentuate my natural looks. I would rate both himself and his practice very highly. skygirl1
